“We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning,” the statement reads. “Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends, and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”
The accident was reported earlier this morning by TMZ, which revealed the first details about the stunt. Reportedly, the stunt rider was thrown into the air when her motorcycle crashed through a ground-floor studio at Shaw Tower.
This was later confirmed by Vancouver Police Department.
“Vancouver Police can confirm that a female stunt driver has died on the set of Deadpool during a stunt on a motorcycle,” the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement. “VPD officers are at the scene, along with officers from WorkSafeBC. More information will be released when it is available.”
The production was shooting at Vancouver’s Jack Poole Plaza, where the stuntwoman was loaded into an Advanced Life Support ambulance shortly following the accident, according to CTV reporter Ben Mijure.
While the stuntwoman’s identity is currently being withheld, many have presumed that she was a stunt double for Zazie Beetz’s character Domino.
Deadpool 2 is slated to be released in theaters on June 1, 2018.
