Last year, Ryan Reynolds commented on why he felt Deadpool was making it onto so many awards lists, and the actor said it all came down to ingenuity.
“It’s important to note that in regards to Deadpool‘s narrative material, the film came along at exactly the right time when we (the industry) reached the peak of superhero (movies) and Deadpool was 90 degrees to it,” he told Deadline. “There’s been a lot of superhero films that have been brilliant, and there’s a seriousness and darkness to them. At the end of the day, it’s about guys walking around in tights. Deadpool took these tropes and usurped them in inventive ways.”
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand and Stefan Kapiฤiฤ.
