A new featurette for Doctor Strange was released by Marvel Studios where star Benedict Cumberbatch explains a bit about his character (Yes, Dr. Strange is his real name), then focuses on the magical objects of the film. There are quite a few fun new 1-second-or-less shots in the featurette teasing some of the cooler devices for channeling magic.
Cumberbatch explains the “Sling Rings,” a small brass knuckle device that is used to help them channel portal-opening teleportation magic, and even demonstrates their use. His casual conversation as Benedict (with his British accent intact) while in full costume and demonstrating magic is sure to make Cumberbatch fans smile.

When the interviewer asks about other magical objects, we get a quick montage of some of those we’ll see in the movie. We see the Book of Cagliostro, and important magical tome that may hold more secrets to the movie’s plot than anyone has yet realized. There’s a close-up on the Eye of Agamotto, home to an Infinity Stone (that we’re pretty sure is the time stone).
Finally, we get a flash of Master of the Mystic Arts and living Easter Egg Tina Minoru, mother to Runaways character Nico Minoru, and her family’s mystical weapon of choice, the Staff of One, offering our first high definition look at the character and the amazing object. With Runaways in development now as a Hulu series by the creators of Chuck and The OC it will be interesting to see if this design for the Staff of One carries over to the TV show (it doesn’t have to – many mystical devices change shapes/looks when wielded by someone new – including the Eye of Agamotto in this movie on its own!).
But if Cumberbatch could have one of these objects for use in the real world, he chooses the Cloak of Levitation – a part of Dr. Strange’s signature look, sure, but also a powerful magical tool.
“It’s amazing, it’s got a personality of its own!” he explains while some footage brand-new and previously seen in trailer plays. “It punches people, flies me around the place… it’s the beginning of a beautiful relationship.”
The actor also said he “can’t wait to see how Strange mixes in with everyone else” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Strong rumors suggest we’ll see him meet Thor first, either in a post-credits scene for Doctor Strange or in Thor: Ragnarok next year (or possibly both), but Cumberbatch and Strange have also been confirmed for Avengers: Infinity War, the next assemblage of the full team.
Doctor Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson, hits theaters November 4, 2016.
