Doctor Strange is coming home next month, and fans will be able to watch it over and over again, looking for any hints, Easter eggs, and nuance they missed while it was in the theaters. The popular film that introduced magic to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a significant fashion did very well at the box office - the best solo debut from Marvel Studios since Iron Man is nothing to sneeze at.

But while some films, like Ant-Man, got sequels announced very soon after their release, we haven't heard anything about a potential Doctor Strange 2 just yet. The first film certainly set things up for a sequel, with the paths Baron Mordo and Doctor Strange found themselves on, and Strange fully becoming and accepting his role as Sorcerer Supreme. Of course, the first thing a sequel would need would be a director, and the first movie's director Scott Derrickson had good news for Comicbook.com on that front.

"Yes, absolutely," Derrickson told us when we asked if he'd come back into this sandbox. "I would love to do Doctor Strange 2. We'll see. We'll see what happens."

The director spoke extensively about the joys of working in the MCU, with "no pressure" to be anything but a "completely stand alone movie," so he may want to (but didn't say in this interview) try to stay in that lane. With so many universe-altering and massive team movies, such a thing may work as a nice change-of pace. And with so much morality to explore between Mordo, Strange, and the Ancient One's revelations in the first film, there's plenty more ways to get a little strange.

Doctor Strange will appear next in Thor: Ragnarok, and is also due to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, which began principal photography this week. Doctor Strange hits digital HD February 14, and DVD/Blu-ray on February 28.
