According to James Gunn, fans should hold out hope about seeing Nathan Fillion enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During a recent Facebook Live Q&A to promote Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Gunn addressed Fillion’s cut cameo from the film, and whether or not he would return in the film’s next installment.
“Will he be in [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3]? I don’t know yet.” Gunn revealed. “I haven’t made up my mind.”
Fillion was set to cameo in the film as Simon Williams/Wonder Man – through a series of several fake film posters during one of Vol. 2‘s Earth scenes. While Fillion’s role in the film was eventually cut, Gunn has since released images of the posters online, and expressed an interest in bringing Wonder Man into the fold in some way.
While Gunn seems currently uncertain about if Wonder Man will be in Vol. 3, Fillion appeared to be on board with the idea earlier this summer.
“If you know the Marvel Universe, Simon Williams becomes Wonder Man, becomes an Avenger.” Fillion explained. “So, he’s part of that universe. It was a neat little Easter egg, it was a neat little piece of the universe. It didn’t get into the movie. That’s fine. That happens all the time. I still had the same wonderful experience. But moving forward, I don’t know, let me see what we can do with this opportunity. That’s just a cleverly disguised opportunity. Am I right?”
With Gunn currently penning the script for Vol. 3 – and plotting decades of cosmic MCU stories in the process – fans can only hope that Fillion’s portrayal of Wonder Man will enter the MCU in the near future.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now available on Digital HD, DVD, and Blu-Ray.
