Marvel’s Inhumans has just premiered on ABC (at the time of writing this), but before Marvel fans got to enjoy the show in front of their televisions from the comfort of home, Inhumans tried an ambitious launch in movie theaters as an IMAX feature.

Marvel revealed early on that the IMAX version of Inhumans would be cutting footage from both the premiere and episode two of the series, and combine the remaining chunks into a movie-length feature. The plan didn’t work out quite as planned, as fans hardly turned out to see Inhumans in IMAX, the TV premiere will be the first time that a lot of them get to see the series.

That leaves a big question: what were the differences between the IMAX and TV versions of Marvel’s Inhumans? Read on for the breakdown!

Perspective

The first major difference between the IMAXย feature and TV Premiere versions ofย Inhumansย is the choice in point of view.ย

The IMAXย Inhumansย feature exclusivelyย follows the Royal Family,ย Maximus’ attempt coup of Attilan, and the resulting hunt for the various Royal Family members across Hawaii.ย

The TV premiere widens the series’ perspective to include human characters in Earth’s government, who become aware of Attilan’sย presence on Earth’s Moon…ย

Louise

The IMAXย version ofย Inhumansย cut the character of Louise (Ellen Woglom) out of the story completely, along with her entire story arc in the premiere.ย

The TV version reveals that Louise is a character who works for an aerospace company – the one that’s drivingย the lunar rover which Gorgon bashes with his hoof.ย

Louise is passionate about all things cosmic, and driven about her work. As we see in the TV pilot, Louise is the only one who is on to what is really transpiring on the moon – but that realizationย only earns her ridicule and reprimand from her superiors.

The Human Factor

As stated, the IMAXย version ofย Inhumansย cut the entire storyline about the Earthlings who begin to suspect that there’s something amiss on the moon. By doing so, the theatrical version held back one of the major subplots that we’ll see play out this season.ย

As we see in the TV version, Louise spotted the energy signatureย of Lockjaw teleporting the Royalย Family to Hawaii, and despite being reprimanded at her job, she intends to pursue the lead. This puts the Royal Family on a collision course with a human presence that will actually comprehend who and what they are – exactly what they wanted to avoid. And with Louise capable of putting together where Attilanย is hidden, she’ll become a very pivotal player in the story.ย
