This year, fans were forced to bid farewell to Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart as the actor bowed out of the X-Men movies. Logan entered theaters with a hard r-rating, and fans were blown back by its unapologetic violence. Jackman brought a new grit to Wolverine in the film, but the film’s spotlight was often hijacked by newcomer Dafne Keen. The actress, who was cast as the mutant X-23, stunned fans with her explosive role. Now, the director of Logan is speaking out the kind of movie he’d make for X-23, and it will have moviegoers begging 20th Century Fox to give a green-light.

In an interview with ScreenRant, James Mangold was recently asked what he envisions an X-23 movie being about. While the director did not provide too many details, Mangold gave a high-flown overview of the story he’d like to tell:

“A very honest film about young people, is what I’d say โ€“ a very honest film about young people growing up.”

Of course, Mangold’s description doesn’t give fans any nitty-gritty details they’re dying to hear. There’s no word on if the film would house a timeskip or if Laura Kinney’s mutant friends would be involved. However, the director’s idea does hint that the film would be as raw as Logan; A honest coming-of-age story can be hard to watch if done right, and X-23 has more than enough traumas to craft a compelling story.

Right now, there is no official approval on 20th Century Fox’s side about a X-23 film. However, Mangold has said he’s talked with the studio about the standalone.

“Anything’s possible,” Mangold told press during a recent press conference. “I’ve certainly talked to them about it. I even talked to them about it before we made the movie. I thought she was just such a great character, but with what Dafne did, I think that certainly, that’s possible.”

Logan currently enjoys an 88.40 score on ComicBook.com’s composite rankings, and you can view the official synopsis below.

Logan takes place in the year 2024, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan‘s vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn’t seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn’t over yet.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.

Logan is now playing in theaters.
