Luke Cage Season 2: 5 Villains We Want To See

Marvel and Netflix have officially confirmed that Marvel’s Luke Cage will be getting a second season!

The announcement was made with a tweet that featured a video set to the tune of the Luke Cage opening theme, sent out with Cage’s own personal motto, “Always forward.”

Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker created a masterpiece with the first season, which takes place in Harlem is described as “a powerful fusion of dark drama, hip-hop, and classic superhero action.“

Luke Cage, the bulletproof black man, even tackled some serious socio-political issues as our hero rose up through the ranks of gangsters, dirty politicians, and even his own twisted brother to become the hero that Harlem needed.

After all, Luke Cage was first black Marvel superhero to make the jump to live-action as a lead in his own series.

He battled Cottonmouth, Shades, Black Mariah, and Diamondback in order to clean up the crime-riddled streets of Harlem, take back his home, and provide a safe spot for young kids – just like Pop did. RIP Pop!

Now that Luke Cage season 2 has been officially announced, we’re wondering what threats Powerman will be facing next.

Luke Cage star Mike Colter has teased that the series’ second season may see Luke teaming up with soon-to-be fellow Defender Iron Fist, played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Game of Thrones alum Finn Jones. Both characters are best known for their time as the crime-fighting-for-profit duo called Heroes for Hire.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at 5 Villains We’d Like To See Luke Cage Take On In Season 2…

Nightshade

Nightshade, also known as Tilda Johnson grew up in a poverty-stricken neighborhood, took an interest in science and biochemistry, but ended up involved in a life of crime by the time she was a teenager.

Tilda is a brilliant scientist and has displayed expertise in the fields of biochemistry, genetics, cybernetics, robotics and physics. She is a proficient unarmed combatant, having been extensively trained in martial arts and acrobatics during her time with the Femizons, and is known to use her beauty and personality to cause others to underestimate her.

After she was defeated by Captain America she returned to Harlem, whe she developed an army of robots. She used her robot army to successfully take over Harlem’s protection rackets from the local gangs. 

But because Luke Cage is the King od Harlem, both he and Iron Fist quickly caught on to Nightshade’s plans and stopped her in her tracks.

Oh, and she’s also got an army of wolves that listen to her every command and uses potions to get men specifically do do whatever she wants.

 

Tombstone

Tombstone also known as Lonnie Lincoln was born and raised in poverty-stricken Harlem. However, he stood out right away because he was born with albinism and was constantly bullied.

This eventually led to Lonnie turning to a life of gang-related crime. He even shaved his teeth into points, trained as a pro fighter, and has had plenty of run-ins with Marvel superheroes throughout the years including Daredevil, Punisher, and even Spidey.

Of course, when he returned to Harlem he was met face to face with Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

Luke Cage and Iron Fist went after Tombstone on a mission to take back a necklace stolen from Jennie Royce.

He refused and said that he won the necklace in a card game with The Hood. Being a big-time ganster, Tombstone felt disrespected by the accusations of being called a thief and fought back.

Luke and Danny were forced  to fight their way past numerous gangsters to grab necklace and run. As they left Tombstone tried to warn them that the necklace, which was actually the Supersoul Stone, was magical.

When Tombstone recovered from the battle he swore revenge on both Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

 

Bushmaster

The first Bushmaster was born as John McIver with younger brother Quincy. The two poor street-kids quickly rose to being big-time crime lords after their first robbery went wrong.

As Bushmaster he often ran into conflicts with Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Misty Knight.

He kidnapped Burstein and Claire Temple, using their safety and to blackmail Cage into abducting detective Misty Knight, who humiliated Bushmaster with a fake romance.

He eventually ended up going under a very similar procedure as Luke Cage, but he came out stronger and more advanced. Turns out, the process used on Bushmaster was much more powerful than the experimental testing that Luke Cage went through in prison. 

Bushmaster became more powerful than Cage. Because the process made him so physically large, he started to go by the name Power Master.

Because Luke Cage wasn’t strong enough to take down Power Master alone, he had to call in his pal Iron Fist.

 

 

Master Of The World

The Master Of The World also known as Eshu was created primarily to be in constant opposition with Alpha Flight, however he did have a major story arch with Heroes For Hire, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

The Master of the World is over four thousand years old, preserved by the alien Plodex ship. Before that he was a great hunter, but incredibly anti-social. 

His super-villain dream is to one day rule the entire world and he will so at any cost.

He appeared again in a storyline with Heroes for Hire with a plan to rid the earth of 70% of its population. His primary plan was to release a compound into the atmosphere that would render all people sterile so that he could choose who would be the next generation.

To deal with superhumans, he cloned a group of superhumans from DNA samples from Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and other members of Heroes for Hire. However, the Heroes were able to defeat him, thwart his evil plan and even destroy his base of operations – Hydra Island.

 

Chemistro

The third and most well-known person to hold the Chemistro mantle is Calvin Carr, who also had quite a few battles with Luke Cage.

Chemistro had no super powers, but did possess an Alchemy gun that was able to turn physical properties into something else, like ice into sand.

He started his criminal reputation as Chemistro by taking out two of Luke’s friends because he was responsible for putting his brother in prison.

In a battle with Luke and Iron Fist, then known as the Heroes for Hire , Carr tried his best to beat the dynamic duo. His first fight against the two however did not turn out as he had hoped, so he did the natural thing and ran away to safety.

After he was badly beaten by the two heroes he returned to seek revenge, and almost beat Iron Fist and Luke Cage to death.

There is a possibility that we may see any of these villains in the upcoming second season of Luke Cage, of course they would be updated to meet the modernized series.
