Spider-Man in Civil War

As Spider-Man's film rights are secure at Sony, fans were buzzing ahead of Captain America: Civil War earlier in the year when news broke that Marvel Studios had partnered with Sony to bring everyone's favorite web-slinger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Captain America: Civil War was released worldwide over a month ago, and fans are still clamoring over the film which has been dubbed the best installment of the MCU thus far. With a star-studded cast of superheroes, Captain America: Civil War has busted box-office numbers worldwide with its total grosses earning over $1,134,000,000. Fans and critics have both complimented the movie's dynamic story, and reviews have been particularly complimentary of Tom Holland's portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

However, for Russian audiences, Spider-Man's cameo was apparently underwhelming.

Russian fans are reportedly upset with the voice actor who dubbed Spider-Man's quippy lines for the film. Their major complaints are that the actor sounded too young for the hero's role and washed away Peter Parker's witty remarks because of the dub's childish tone.

Annoyed, Russian fans have turned to change.org and started a petition to urge film executives to reconsider their casting for Spider-Man's current voice actor. So far, the petition has gathered 1,208 signatures out of its goal of 1,500.

Neva, the Russian company which oversaw the dubbing of Captain America: Civil War, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and defended Spider-Man's voice actor by saying he, "was a student of a theater school and [that] his voice was approved by the production company."

Even with disgruntled fans rallying to change the MCU's dubbing, Captain America: Civil War has not taken a financial hit from their complaints. The film's foreign grosses exceed $742,000,000 and helped pushed Captain America: Civil War above Disney's Zootopia to become the highest grossing film of 2016.

For all the disappointed Russian fans who were excited to see Spider-Man swing into the MCU, hopefully Tom Holland's starring role in Spider-Man: Homecoming come 2017 will renew their faith in one of Marvel's greatest on-screen heroes.
