The X-Men film universe has been quite active lately, with several projects in various states of development. While the franchise is still going strong, there will be one change that fans will notice going forward.

The James Mangold-directed Logan will be Hugh Jackman’s last go round as the fan favorite Wolverine, but fans have also gotten used to the character popping up in other films. Wolverine wasn’t a part of the X-Men First Class team, but he still showed up in a fantastic cameo. Logan also made his presence felt in X-Men: Apocalypse despite not being in the main cast.
Logan will change all that however according to producer Simon Kinberg. In an interview with Fandango’s Erik Davis, Kinberg killed any hope of Logan showing up in future X-Men films or even Deadpool 2. Davis posted a tweet saying “From our chat–> Simon Kinberg shot down a Hugh Jackman/Deadpool cameo: “I don’t think he would cameo in a Deadpool or mainline #XMen movie”

Especially in regards to Deadpool 2, that has to be disappointing for some fans. Still, Deadpool will likely just grab a cardboard cutout of Wolverine and say “surprise guys! Wolverine’s in the movie!” That seems like something he would do right? This also indicates that Deadpool himself will not appear in future X-Men films, but it seems that FOX is perfectly fine with other X-Men appearing in Deadpool films, as Cable and Domino are expected to be big parts of the upcoming sequel.
Logan takes place in the year 2029, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan’s vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn’t seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn’t over yet.
Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
