It’s safe to say that fans are excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming for a myriad of reasons. Among them is the fact that it marks Michael Keaton‘s return to the superhero movie genre, after previously playing the titular caped crusader in 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns.

According to Homecoming‘s star, Tom Holland, Keaton’s contributions to the superhero world extended off screen as well. In an recent interview at WonderCon 2017, Holland revealed that he and Keaton bonded over Holland’s approach to his action scenes as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

“My big thing was always trying to ground Peter’s powers in reality,” Holland explains, “which meant never putting him in a situation he can easily escape from. And that choice would [often] completely reconfigure the scene that we’d have to do, which would waste two hours in re-rehearsing.”

Apparently, Holland’s desire to rework certain action sequences resonated with Keaton, who plays the villain Adrian Toomes/The Vulture in the film.

“I really stuck by my guns, and eventually they went with what I said.” Ho Michael took me aside and said, ‘Look, that’s what I did in Batman. I always tried to make sure that what I was doing made sense, and that it could possibly happen.’ So it felt like something I should keep doing, but also a compliment at the same time.”

With that dedication in mind, fans are sure to get excited when they see the fight sequences between Holland and Keaton come to life onscreen.
