There aren’t many brave enough to court death, but that’s kind of a way of life Marvel’s Thanos, the Mad Titan.

Thanos’ obsession with death, or rather his infatuation with Lady Death, was a primary motivation for the character for years. It’s one of the best-known traits of the character among fans and it was even referenced in the post-credits scene of Marvel’s The Avengers.
As of The Unworthy Thor #5, it seems that Thanos has moved on, though his new girlfriend certainly seems to reveal that Thanos has a very particular type.
SPOILERS for The Unworthy Thor #5 follow.
During the events of The Unworthy Thor, Thanos set his sights on the Mjolnir of the Ultimate Thor, which made its way over to the Earth-616 universe after the events of Secret Wars.
Thanos sent two members of the Black Order, Black Swan and Proxima Midnight, to fetch the hammer. They were accompanied by a mysterious hooded figure that remained unidentified throughout the course of the series.

Having failed to obtain the hammer, the Black Order and the mystery character return to Thanos. He criticizes the hooded figure for failing to obtain a token for him to prove her worth. The hooded figure decides to prove herself in another way and takes down both Black Swan and Proxima Midnight.
Having defeated the Black Order, the hooded figure reveals herself to be none other than Hela, former ruler of Hel, the Asgardians underworld. Hela promises that she give him something he desires even more than a hammer or the Infinity Gems, and that’s death. The two villains then share a kiss.
Check out the scene for yourself in the gallery below. ComicBook.com asked writer Jason Aaron what the pairing and Hela’s offer means for the Marvel Universe.
“We all know about Thanos’ particular fixation on death so it makes sense that we would see this alliance forged with Thanos and Hela, who has long been the queen of the underworld in Norse mythology, but recently she’s been dethroned and so she’s lost control of her kingdom,” Aaron told us. “This is her trying to get that back. As to where that goes, I definitely expect to see the two of them getting up to no good together in the coming months.”
Could there be a deadlier couple in the cosmos of the Marvel Universe than Thanos and Hela? It sounds like Marvel fans are about to find out.
And then, of course, we have to wonder if this coming just before Hela arrives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is only a coincidence or a hint at things to come in future films like Avengers: Infinity War.
