The two-part Season 3 finale of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs tonight on ABC, and Marvel has promised that this mission will be the last for at least one member of the team.

Being referred to as the “Fallen Agent,” one of the show’s character will fall in battle against the mad Inhuman demigod called Hive.

But who will it be? We decided to construct our own “dead pool” and place odds on who isn’t making it Season 4.

The Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 finale airs Tuesday, May 17 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

Phil Coulson

Marvel brought Phil Coulson back from the dead for this series. Would they real kill him off now?

I’m going to say probably not. There is some narrative sense in having Coulson pay for his sin, killing Grant War in cold blood, with his own life, so I won’t say its entirely out of the question.

If Coulsonย is the one to go, I don’t think it is a death that will stick.

Melinda May

Could the Cavalry have ridden into her last battle? I’d say it’s entirely possible.

With Andrew’s transformation into Lash and then sacrificing himself to save Daisy, May is in a dark place, the kind of dark place that make make you more willing to sacrifice yourself for the greater good. She’s also the team’s go-to pilot, so death by exploding Quinjet seems like a pretty likely way for her to go.

It’s not that I want to see May go, but it’s hard to argue hat this wouldn’t be a fitting end to her story.

Daisy Johnson

While Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is an ensemble cast show, Daisy Johnson has definitely been our point of view character. That’s one reason why I think the odds of survival are stacked in her favor.

The other reason is that the surrogate father-daughter relationship between Coulson and Daisy has been the centerpiece of this show since the premiere, and I’m not sure that losing Daisy to a monster he inadvertently unleashed is the kind of darkness that the show can write Coulson out of.

Then again, if the vision is to work consistently with her previous vision, she should actual be able to see the event as it happens, which could place her in Quinjet. However, I feel like the more likely explanation is that it’s a kind of fadeout, with Daisy actually watching through a monitor, similar to when she believed she saw Coulson shooting at her, but it was actually his reflection in a mirror.

Still, I just can’t see Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. going this route

Leo Fitz

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a show created Joss Whedon, and with Joss’s brother Jed Whedon and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen as executive producers. Anyone who is familiar with Joss Whedon’s work should know that happy couples tend to meet tragic ends, and we’re forced to wonder if that’s a shared family trait.

Fitz and Simmons have been awfully happy recently, and I can’t help but feel like that puts a giant target on their back. More specifically, loving someone gives you something worth dying for. I would not at all be surprised if Fitz did just that in tonight’s finale.

Jemma Simmons

Simmons is the other half of that happy couple I was just talking about, and which places her in just as much danger as Fitz.

I’m giving Simmons slightly a slightly higher chance at death simply because her Season 3 story arc has involved her trying to become more capable in the field. I have feeling that could mean she bites off more than she could chew and ends up trapped on the Quinjet in the finale.

Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie

The one hint we’ve received about the identity of the Fallen Agent is that Yo-Yo’s cross necklace is on the Quinjet when it explodes. At the end of the previous episode, we saw Yo-Yo give that cross to Mack as a sign of faith, which would seem to hint at him being the Fallen Agent.

I feel like it hints a little too hard, actually. For them to telegraph the identity of the Fallen Agent that early would take a lot of tension out of the finale. It seems more likely to me that Mack passes that cross along to whoever the real Fallen Agent is, rather than him being the Fallen Agent himself.

Lincoln Campbell

Lincoln has had it rough this season, as he constantly tries to prove that he belongs with S.H.I.E.L.D. What better way to prove his worth than by sacrificing himself?

Another clue working against Lincoln is Daisy’s vision itself. As I speculated earlier, Daisy should actually see the explosion if the rules of her visions are to remain consistent. If that’s the case, it seems like Lincoln, her love interest, would be the person she’s most likely to stay on the line with until the bitter end.

Odds of being the Fallen Agent โ€“ 70%

Joey Gutierrez

Joey is getting low odds largely because, despite being the first caterpillar recruited to the Secret Warriors, he’s been a relatively minor, recurring character and not a series regular.

It’s not that I think Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is necessarily above killing a relatively minor character for a cheap death, but I do think that the show’s publicists would be smart enough not to overhype such a death with its own hashtag.

Also, please don’t kill off your one gay character.

Thanks to her relationship with Mack, Yo-Yo’s death would hit a bit harder than her fellow Secret Warrior, but will still not quite live up to the hype.

Again, the cross in the Quinjet would seem to hint at the possibility of the Fallen Agent being Yo-Yo, but I feel like the very faith the cross symbolize would rather motivate her to leave it behind with Mack.

It would certainly be a sad scene, but it still seems unlikely.
