In the comics Wong is the manservant of Doctor Strange, however we already know that the movie is introducing a different approach to this character, played by Benedict Wong.

Wong does come from a long line of warrior monks and protectors of the Ancient One, meaning he will most likely take part in training Doctor Strange as he learns about the mystic realm.
During our visit to the set of Doctor Strange, Wong’s relationship with Doctor Strange in the movie was explained a bit further:
“It feels like Wong at the time is of a high ranking, and then obviously it was Strange that discovers that he has these powers. I can’t really … Yeah, it’s really hard to circumnavigate from what’s going to happen in the film. They are quite an odd couple really. Yeah, Yeah, they’re quite an odd ball couple.
Instead of being a servant, the movie will highlight how Wong becomes an ally to Doctor Strange:
“It’s how they’ve become allies together. I think that’s what we’re converting to. Then we’ll just see how it evolves and how they explore it in the next one.”
It sounds like Wong will have a role in training Stephen Strange and showing him the way, while at the same time helping him discover an entirely new mystical realm rather than just serving him tea.
We aren’t sure if Wong will have any action scenes, however it seems like he will more of a highly-respected mentor.
Doctor Strange releases in theaters on November 4, 2016.
