Transformers 5 Post-Credits Scene Explained

Transformers: The Last Knight is now in theaters, and it certainly goes a long way toward setting up the franchise for the next era of sequels and spinoff films.

The Last Knight reveals even more of the secret shared history between Earth and Cybertron, by incorporating the legend of King Arthur into the Transformers mythos. Part of that secret origin involves the Transformers’ home planet of Cybertron, and its “God,” a new character we meet named Quintessa (Gemma Chan).

Even though Transformers 5‘s storyline delves deep into the mystery of Cybertron and Earth’s connection, not everything is resolved by the ending of the film. As stated, The Last Knight is much more of a launchpad for the next chapter of the Transformers saga than it is a standalonestory – and the film’s end credits scene has a lot to do with where the story goes next.

To Kill A God…

The Last Knight’s climatic battle involves the remaining Autobots on Earth backing Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and historian Vivian Wembley as they try to infiltrate the ancient weapon that Quintessa activates in order to suck the life energy from Earth (which is revealed to be a planet-sized Transformer) and transfer it to the crumbling world of Cybertron. 

The Autobots and their human allies ultimately win the battle, destroying Quintessa’s ship and the weapon, and leaving Cybertron under the control of the Autobots. Optimus Prime takes his team and leaves to rebuild Cybertron – but what the Autobots don’t know is that Quintessa has survived the battle (and a seemingly fatal shot from Bumblebee) and is now hiding out on Earth, in the guise of a Middle-Eastern human woman. 

As we see in the post-credits scene (mid-credits, to be specific), Quintessa seeks out the one of the “horns” that have appeared all over Earth – sites that reveal our planet is actually an ancient Transformers God, known as Unicron. The horns have become sites of scientific study, and we see Quintessa approach one of the researchers with an ominous offer: She can teach them how to use the horns as a means to kill Unicron. 

The implication is clear: with Quintessa hiding on Earth and trying to achieve her nefarious ends, Optimus Prime, The Autobots, Earth and Cybertron will all soon be facing peril from Unicron, one way or another.

Transformers: The Last Knight’s voice cast includes Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, John Goodman as Hound, and John DiMaggio as Crosshairs. Other transformers appearing the film include Bumblebee, Drift, Hot Rod, Cogman, Canopy, Sqweeks, Grimlock, Megatron, Barricade, Onslaught, Hooligan, and Mohawk.
