Steve Rogers’ MCU Return Totally Changes His Avengers: Endgame Farewell

There are several teasers hitting theaters for Avengers: Doomsday, and the first one features the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. However, the teaser presents a couple of things that make his return seem interesting. The first is that this isn’t old man Steve Rogers, as he was seen in Avengers: Endgame. The second is that Steve has a baby in the clip, and now some fans want to know who that baby grew up to become, if anyone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, while this teaser raises more questions than answers, it also leaves open some confusion about what this means for the last scene that Steve Rogers was seen in.

Steve Rogers made his MCU departure in the same movie that Tony Stark did. While Stark died as Iron Man to save the world in Avengers: Endgame, Rogers gave his shield to Sam Wilson and passed on the role of Captain America. However, what does his return in Avengers: Doomsday mean for that passing of the torch moment?

How Will Captain America’s Return Affect His MCU Farewell?

There are some significant problems with Steve Rogers returning for Avengers: Doomsday. The biggest of these is that it works to possibly undercut Sam Wilson as Captain America, which the MCU can’t do because that would make things worse for the future. Evans is not coming back as Captain America, and the scene with him holding his baby was from the past. The modern-day Steve Rogers is still older (if he is alive at all), and Sam Wilson is Captain America.

If Steve Rogers has always been around and had more adventures as Captain America before this, he had to have done it in the multiverse, since he clearly had a way to get through the dimensions. Could Steve have known about his future and what was going to happen, and if so, did he really choose Sam Wilson, or did Steve give Sam the shield because he learned about the future, and he had to? It could ruin everything about that special moment between the two heroes in Avengers: Endgame.

However, the other big problem is that, if Steve Rogers comes back in Avengers: Doomsday in the present day, it could undo everything about his final moments in Avengers: Endgame, where he passed the torch to Sam Wilson. If Rogers is back, it could really hurt the passing of the torch moment, and it could destroy everything that the MCU has built with Sam Wilson in the role. While bringing back Robert Downey Jr. shouldn’t change anything since he is Doctor Doom and not Iron Man, Chris Evans coming back as Steve Rogers could backfire tremendously for the MCU.

However, there is one thing people aren’t really talking about right now. There is a decent chance that Steve Rogers isn’t coming back in Avengers: Doomsday in a modern-day setting. Remember, the clip sees a younger Steve Rogers after he went back in time to have his dance with Peggy Carter, and the two apparently had a baby of their own and grew old together in private. That said, the only time that Steve Rogers might appear in Avengers: Doomsday could be in the past.

Doctor Doom is planning to change the world into his own image, which will happen by the end of Avengers: Doomsday, and lead into the next movie, Avengers: Secret Wars. To do this, there is a good chance that Doctor Doom will possibly travel between Earths in the multiverse, and even travel to the past. There is a better than average chance that Doom will go back in time to find Steve Rogers and deal with his activities, which possibly started the oncoming Incursion.

This is really what the MCU needs to do, and have Doctor Doom go to the past to deal with Steve Rogers (which could explain his absence in the future with Peggy Carter), and possibly to figure out where Rogers’ child is, since this is something that might play into the puzzle of how to stop Doctor Doom in the next film.

Who Is Captain America’s Baby?

That means the biggest mystery to solve isn’t why Steve Rogers is back in the MCU, or even figuring out what is going on with Steve and Sam Wilson. The big mystery, and the only purpose for Steve Rogers ‘ return in Avengers: Doomsday, should be because of the baby. Everyone is so busy talking about Steve Rogers coming back, and not enough people are talking about the real star of that scene, the baby.

If Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter had a baby, that baby likely has the Super Soldier Serum in his or her body, which means they could become a superhero as well. Steve Rogers has kids in comics, although there is only one in the main Marvel timeline. That child was adopted. However, he has two other kids that the MCU could bring in as part of a future Young Avengers storyline. One is from the Next Avengers world with James Rogers. The other is a daughter named Sarah from a What If…? storyline.

If the MCU plans to continue with a Young Avengers future, this could be where the company starts. Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, America Chavez, Ironheart, and Wiccan are already there, and it sounds like Wiccan will find Speed. This leaves a few openings, including spots for Miles Morales and possibly a teenage Nova. However, two other key members are Hulkling, who has to be there for Wiccan, and Patriot. Elijah Bradley already exists in the MCU, but the company might choose to replace that character with Steve Rogers’ son, which could be the best way to explain this Avengers: Doomsday teaser.
