Two Star Wars standalone films, which Disney refers to as "anthologies," are currently being developed. Gareth Edwards is working on Star Wars: Rogue One, which is filling out its cast at the moment. Josh Trank (Fantastic Four) was helming the second anthology, but he recently "exited" that project.
We know very little about the second anthology film, besides Simon Kinberg (Fantastic Four) is writing it and previous rumors claim it is "a Boba Fett origin story."
A source for Schmoes Know claims it will focus on how a rivalry between Boba Fett and Han Solo began. The film will be set between "Revenge of the Sith" and the original Star Wars film, "A New Hope." We can expect appearances by Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and fellow bounty hunter Bossk.
Of course, the film still needs a director to replace Trank. Schmoes Know's source says Iron Man director Jon Favreau and Kingsman: The Secret Service director Matthew Vaughn are "circling the project."
