The DC Extended Universe isn’t known for its quality. While there are a few standout entries, such as The Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, for the most part, the franchise does more harm than good. The whole thing starts off on the wrong foot because Zack Snyder has a dark vision for the heroes he’s bringing to life, wanting to push them to their limits before they even have a chance to find their footing. No character has more thrown at them than Superman, though. In Batman v Superman alone, the Kryptonian has to deal with his mother being kidnapped, face off against the world’s greatest detective, and sacrifice himself to save the world from Doomsday.

Superman isn’t in a great place at the start of BvS because of the events of Man of Steel. The conflict with Zod leaves Metropolis in ruin, and most of the world blames Superman for it. However, while the titular hero going all out in a city full of people is a tough pill to swallow, it’s not the biggest issue with the movie. Here are seven Man of Steel mistakes you’ll never be able to unsee.
7) Major Carrie Farris

The United States government wants to keep tabs on Superman after the battle in Metropolis, but the hero isn’t interested in being watched. He confronts General Swanwick, who is driving around with his assistant, Carrie Farris. When Superman leaves, Swanwick refers to Farris as “captain,” but the Man of Steel‘s credits tell a different story, referring to her as “major.”
6) The Fishing Boat Rope

Wanting to keep his powers a secret, Clark Kent picks up odd jobs, including a stint on a fishing boat. Life on the water is dangerous, though, so he has to keep his head on a swivel. During one especially dangerous moment, some torn-up rope falls on the deck of the boat. When Clark goes to pick it up, however, it’s a nice and neat bundle.
5) Zod’s Message

General Zod knows how to make an entrance. Once he and his allies break out of the Phantom Zone, they head to Earth and deliver a message to humanity, explaining that aliens walk among them. Man of Steel travels to different locations around the world to see how people are reacting, but the timeline doesn’t add up because it’s nighttime everywhere.
4) The Gash on Zod’s Face

Zod isn’t happy about the direction Krypton is heading in at the start of the movie, so he picks a fight with his former friend Jor-El. Despite being a man of science, Jor-El gets the better of Zod for a moment and cuts his face. The gash that Zod is dealing with doesn’t stay in place for the entire scene, though, disappearing without a trace in one shot.
3) The Lights Are Still On

When a movie has been out as long as Man of Steel, it’s easy for viewers to nitpick it. One eagle-eyed fan has set their sights on Metropolis’ infrastructure, calling out the fact that, toward the end of Zod and Superman’s fight, lights are still on all over the city. That much destruction usually leads to a blackout, but Snyder didn’t want to embrace total darkness.
2) Bus 6370

There is so much collateral damage in Man of Steel that it’s hard to keep track of what’s being crushed under the power of the World Engine. Well, one viewer points out that a bus with the number 6370 on it gets totaled at one point, only to return later on in perfect condition. While it’s not unusual for big production to reuse items, they usually don’t make it obvious.
1) Lois Lane’s LCD Screen

Pointing out factual errors isn’t fun when the universe they happen in is full of gods and monsters. However, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Lois Lane heads to the Arctic and uses technology without any problem. In reality, the LCD screen she uses in the Kryptonian ship shouldn’t be firing on all cylinders because of the freezing temperatures.
Man of Steel is streaming on HBO Max.
