Nearly 20 years after it first hit the big screen, Ben Stiller’s fantasy movie that only managed to earn a 42% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes is proving to be a surprise streaming hit on Hulu. The Disney-backed platform added dozens of beloved films to its streaming library in September, and nestled alongside movies like Nicolas Cage’s The Surfer and John Wick: Chapter 4 is one of Stiller’s most underrated films that should be at the top of your watchlist.

The movie in question is Night at the Museum. Since making its way to Hulu on September 1st, the movie, starring Ben Stiller as Larry Daley, a museum night security guard who gets a bit more than he bargained for when the exhibits of the museum come to life at night, has been enjoying plenty of success. The movie has cracked Hulu’s Top 15 Movies list, where it currently takes the No. 11 spot. Fans giving Night at the Museum the attention it deserves can dive further into the film series, as both Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb are also available to stream on the platform.
Why You Should Watch the Night at the Museum Trilogy
The Night at the Museum movies aren’t just fun for kids; they’re an entertaining movie marathon for audiences of all ages. The very concept of the films – a museum and its exhibits coming to life at night – sets up for a wildly entertaining adventure that introduces viewers to a range of loveable and quirky characters brought to life by a cast of actors in delightfully fun and memorable roles. In addition to characters portrayed by Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Rami Malek, and Ricky Gervais throughout the movies, the sequels introduce characters portrayed by the likes of Amy Adams, Dick Van Dyke, Bill Hader, Mindy Kaling, Eugene Levy, and more.
Ridiculously charming, magical, and fun, the Night at the Museum movies can be watched on repeat without getting old, and they’re now all streaming in one place as the franchise prepares for another installment. Rather than a continuation, the upcoming film is described as a “reimagining” that will introduce a new story, a new museum, and new characters, though exact details are being kept under wraps. The project was first reported to be in development in July, with Shawn Levy and Dan Levine producing for 21 Laps and Emily Morris overseeing the project.
