Peacock Just Added the Most Iconic Teen Movie of the 1980s

The 1980s are responsible for giving us some of the most timeless and rewatchable movies of all time. Whether you’re a fan of sci-fi, action, horror, or comedy, the odds are high that at least one of your favorite movies came from the ’80s. This is the decade that gave of us Back to the Future, E.T., Indiana Jones, and The Princess Bride. The ’80s were packed with beloved titles, and one of the most popular from that decade just landed on Peacock for fans to revisit.

The start of September saw the iconic teen dramedy The Breakfast Club land on Peacock’s streaming lineup. John Hughes‘ classic high school movie, which cemented the icon status of the Brat Pack, is once again on a major service, making it easy to revisit for the folks that don’t own a physical copy. There is, however, one major caveat when it comes to this addition.

The Breakfast Club Only Streaming for a Limited Time

Peacock just added The Breakfast Club on September 1st, but it appears as though the beloved film is only going to be on the streamer’s roster for a few weeks.

Per JustWatch, a site that tracks the additions and departures on streaming service, The Breakfast Club will once again depart Peacock when September comes to a close. That means the John Hughes hit will only spend a single month on Peacock before either heading to a new streaming service, or once again being relegated to just on-demand rentals and purchases.

Streaming John Hughes Movies

The Breakfast Club is the most popular film that Hughes directed during his career, but a couple of others came close. Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Uncle Buck, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles were all helmed by Hughes. There’s also a slew of movies that he wrote and produced but didn’t direct, including Home Alone and the Vacation franchise.

Hughes has remained one of our most beloved storytellers through his work in the ’80s and ’90s, so it isn’t surprising that many of his films are easily accessible in the world of streaming. Hits like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Weird Science, and The Great Outdoors are all currently streaming on Netflix, while Sixteen Candles can be found on Prime Video.

The Home Alone movies can all be found streaming on Disney+, though Hughes was only involved in the first two films in the series. Titles like Planes, Trains & Automobiles and Pretty in Pink can be found on Kanopy, which is a totally free (and very high quality) service that just requires the use of a local library card.

The biggest John Hughes title that can’t be found on any popular services is Uncle Buck, the 1989 comedy starring John Candy. For the time being, that one is relegated to simply renting or purchasing on-demand — though Kino Lorber has a great 4K disc that’s worth checking out.

For what it’s worth several of these Hughes classics have been given quality 4K transfers over the years. The Breakfast Club actually has one coming from The Criterion Collection in November.
