Bryan Cranston wore his love of Power Rangers well on the latest episode of The Late Show, though he decided to represent someone different from his character in the upcoming Power Rangers reboot.

In promotion for Power Rangers (which currently rates a 3.59 out of 5 on ComicBook.com’s anticipation rankings), Cranston sat down with his friend Stephen Colbert. Cranston plays Zordon in the film, the mentor, and guide to the new Ranger recruits. The thing is, he does essentially play a disembodied head, which would make it difficult to show up in character on Colbert’s couch. He decided to show up in full Red Ranger gear instead and struck a few poses before sitting down.
When Colbert asked him why the Red Ranger, in particular, he said: “Well I’ve always wanted to be a Ranger…” Fair enough, though there is a particular theory out there that says Cranston’s Zordon used to be a Ranger himself, specifically the Red one. Colbert asked him how one gets into character for a disembodied head. “I first severed a head…You know you approach a character the same way, whether you’re doing something like this in a fantasy sequence or historical context or something.”
Colbert also pointed out that the job was, well, pants optional since it was all voice acting. He said “That’s not the reason I took the job Stephen if that’s.. well, you’re right when I did just the head I was nude from the…I was nude. I have a nudity clause in every contract, but it’s the opposite of what you think. I have to be naked all the time.
