The Transformers movie franchise has only begun to explore they mythology of everyone’s favorite and infamous Cybertronians in the last few movies, but this summer’s Transformers: The Last Knight is looking like they’re about to give us the deepest cut of all.

In the new trailer released Wednesday morning, we get our first peek at what could be one of the most ancient Transformer race of all: The Quintessons.

Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura had already announced that The Last Knight will touch on some of the Autobots and Decepticons ancient history including the possibility of seeing Optimus Prime as Orion Pax and Megatron as Megatronus in his gladiatorial days and how the Transformers became divided. It would make sense if you’re going down that route to include the ancient sinister Quintessons.

Look at how it looks that Optimus is standing trial in the opening shot of the trailer. The Quintessons were all sorts of things including scientists and entrepreneurs, but they were also lawmakers and judges. With the character’s ethereal trail almost looks like a robe, this could easily be an Inquisitor or judge with how she’s presented. Plus if you have the Quintessons, the “last knight” could also have a double meaning of a Knight of Unicron as they have historical ties to both Primus and Unicron.

While nothing is confirmed just yet, it’s a good bet that the deeper they dive into the mythology of the Transformers, the better chances we’ll run into these shadowy players down the line.
