Disney likes to follow up their sequel fare with original IP, though this latest entry has been brewing for quite some time. Since 2012 actually, even necessitating a recasting of the lead part due to voice change. Still, it seems all that work paid off, as the first teaser trailer for Disney’s Coco has been released.

It’s quite the teaser as well, clocking in at 2 minutes and 4 seconds, longer than some full trailers. It gives fans a glimpse at a beautiful and stunning world inspired by the Mexican holiday Dia de Los Muertos, otherwise known as the Day of the Dead. A young boy finds a magical guitar that enables him to enter a wondrous and mystical place, and he sets out to find his idol, alongside his traveling buddy Hector. The trailer is gorgeous, full of the life and color you expect from Pixar, and you can view it in the video above.

Coco (which currently has a 2.33 out of 5 on ComicBook.com’s anticipation rankings) has been in development for some time, and thanks to that long process the team had to find a new voice for the lead. Director Lee Unkrich told EW “We actually had another kid doing scratch for Miguel who’s now 17 or 18, which should tell you how long we’ve been working on the movie, but his voice changed long ago, and it was actually in trying to find a new voice for the scratch that we found Anthony,” says Unkrich.

You can view the official synopsis for the film below.

Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael Garcรญa Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history. Character actress Renรฉe Victor also joins the cast as Abuelita, Miguel’s grandmother.”

Coco will be directed by Lee Unkrich, the man behind Toy Story 3, alongside scriptwriter Adrian Molina. The all-Latino voice cast will include Benjamin Bratt (Ernesto de la Cruz), Gael Garcรญa Bernal (Hector), Renรฉe Victor (Abuelita), and Anthony Gonzalez (Miguel).

Coco arrives in theaters November 22, 2017.
