Dune: Part Two might no longer be appearing in theaters this weekend, but fans definitely think it deserves to be celebrated. On Friday, fans took to social media to pay tribute to the highly-anticipated sequel, which was originally scheduled to be released in theaters on Friday, November 3rd. Earlier this fall, Warner Bros. Pictures announced the decision to delay Dune: Part Two to March 15, 2024, amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike.ย
“Part Oneย was like the promise of something, butย Part Twoย delivers on that,” director Denis Villeneuve shared with Empire earlier this year. “I’m exhausted, but a happy director. The first movie was more contemplative — a young man discovering a world. Here, it’s a war movie … At the very core is a love story between Paul and Chani … How Paul will gain her trust, how she will open her heart to him, and how they will find a way to free Chani’s world from the Harkonnen grip. It’s aย much more emotional movie.”

What Isย Dune: Part Twoย About?
Dune: Part Twoย willย explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreidesย (Timothee Chalamet) as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.ย Dune: Part Twoย is expected to also see the return of Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Javier Bardem as Stilgar.
New characters will include Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Lea Seydoux as Margot Fenring, Florence Pughย as Princess Irulan, and Christopher Walker playing Emperor Shaddam IV.
Will There Be aย Dune 3?
As fans of Herbert’s books know, the grand narrative ofย Duneย extends far beyond the events of the first book. This has led to the question of whether or not future films are in the works โย and according to Villeneuve, it very well might be.
“If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream,” Villeneuve tellsย Empire. “Dune Messiahย was written in reaction to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero. Which is not what he wanted to do. My adaptation [ofย Dune] is closer to his idea that it’s actually a warning.”
Will There Be a Dune Spinoff?
The Dune franchise is set to be built upon with Dune: Prophecy (formerly known as Dune: The Sisterhood), a television series that will debut exclusively on Max in the fall of 2024. The series has been previously described as being told through the eyes of a mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit. Given extraordinary abilities by their mastery of the body and the mind, the Bene Gesserit expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium, pursuing plans of their own that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis, known to its inhabitants as Dune.
