With the arrival of September last week we have officially entered into Halloween territory. That means getting your spooky decorations out over the next week or so, stocking up on all of the new pumpkin-flavored food releases, and diving deeper into horror movie marathons. Streaming services like Tubi have made a big push for deeper horror catalogues this Spooky Season, adding several popular titles from the genre for fans to stream for free.

Among the new additions to Tubi this month is Fright Night, the cult-hit vampire movie from 1985. Despite making less than $25 million from its initial theatrical release, Fright Night has gone on to become an enormous fan-favorite over the years, and its blend of vampire horrors and dark comedy (with some gnarly practical effects) made it the perfect viewing for Halloween. Thanks to Tubi’s addition, everyone can watch the movie for free.
Not only was the original Fright Night added to Tubi’s free lineup this month, but the streamer also added the 2011 remake of the same name, starring Colin Farrell. Like the original, the 2011 Fright Night is a movie that didn’t do all that well out of the gate but has come on strong with fans in the years since.
From I, Tonya and Cruella director Craig Gillespie, Fright Night managed to check a lot of the same boxes as the original film, while still finding ways to be fresh for a new generation. It’s the rare horror remake that feels almost as respected by genre fans as its predecessor.
Fright Night Is a Great Halloween Watch
True to its ’80s roots, Fright Night was able to strike the right balance of horror and general watchability. This isn’t a movie that is going to turn off folks who don’t gravitate towards the bigger scares or nastier gore of some horror films. But it also doesn’t worry about pulling any punches. It really embodies the spirit of Halloween by bringing the scares and the fun in equal measure.
The same can be said for the 2011 remake, with Colin Farrell turning the charm up to 11 while still allowing his menace to bubble just under the surface. If you’re not a big fan of the grotesque practical makeup that created such great vampire looks in the original Fright Night (or films like The Lost Boys), then it might be worth giving the remake a try instead.
Horror Movies Streaming Free on Tubi
The Fright Night movies are just two of the dozens of horror titles that arrived on Tubi’s free lineup at the start of September. Surprisingly, the list of additions actually included a couple of other popular remakes, though they didn’t arrive alongside their iconic originals.
The 2018 Halloween made its way to Tubi this month, alongside the 2013 version of Evil Dead. Other new horror additions on Tubi include Paranormal Activity, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Crawl, World War Z, and several others. You can check out the full list of Tubi’s September additions here.
