R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books series was adapted into a 2015 blockbuster film, which found moderate success ($150 million worldwide on a $60 million budget) trying to bring the fun of fright back to new generation of kids.

Sony has been moving ahead with Goosebumps 2 – and now we may have subtitle for the sequel film to go along with a new promotional image.
The image (and subtitle) were revealed in a new issue of License Global, and spotted by Coming Soon. The subtitle “Horrorland” has certain implications, which fans will be able to deduce for themselves.

At the end of the Goosebumps movie, the horrific monsters from the book series (unleashed in the real world by Slappy the Doll) are returned to the worlds of their respective books – along with Hannah, the ghost girl that Jack Black’s R.L. Stine character had raised. Stine ends up working in the high school of his newfound friend Zach Cooper, and rewrites Hannah into existence – however, Stine’s typewriter begins to write on its own, revealing that Brent Green, The Invisible Boy, is still loose, and creating new Goosebumps manuscripts that could once again terrorize the town.
To that end, there are two main plot premises that we could see in this sequel:
- Horrorland is a new Goosebumps manuscript that gets written, turning the town into a veritable land of horrors. (Kind of the like the first film.)
- Horrorland is a manuscript or place that human characters get transported into, offering viewers a whole new world of Goosebumps horrors (literally).
The latter option seems like a lot more of a fun option for the sequel. With a bigger budget and the brand now firmly established, Sony can cut loose and swing for the fences with this property.
Goosebumps 2 is slated for release on September 2018.
