Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the sixth and most recent installment in the Shrek franchise, started streaming on Peacock on September 10th. It is now available on the NBCUniversal streamer alongside the majority of the Shrek franchise, including Puss in Boots. Directed by Joel Crawford, The Last Wish sees the beloved feline dealing with the concept of morality. After learning that he has burnt through eight of his nine lives, Puss in Boots teams up with Kitty and Perrito to find the Last Wish of the fallen Wishing Star in the hopes of restoring his nine lives and continuing his epic adventures.
Why You Should Watch Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is the perfect continuation of the Shrek franchise and the titular character’s story. Although the film, like its predecessor, strays away from the animation style of the Shrek film series, its animation style, inspired by handcrafted storybooks and painting, is just as distinct and visually stunning. The film also captures the core humor and spirit of the Shrek franchise with slapstick comedy and fast-paced jokes for all ages. With compelling and loveable characters, plenty of humor and action, and a creative and engrossing story that is a standout in the franchise, The Last Wish is an enjoyable watch for the entire family.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish continued the lasting success of the Shrek franchise in terms of both box office and critical success. The movie became the tenth-highest-grossing film of 2022 when it grossed $484 million worldwide, making it the fifth-highest-grossing movie in the larger franchise. It was also a hit with critics and audience members, earning both “Certified Fresh” and “Verified Hot” distinctions on Rotten Tomatoes with a 95% critics’ score and 94% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Those numbers make it the highest-rated movie in the entire Shrek franchise in both metrics.
Where to Stream the Rest of the Shrek Franchise
With Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’s arrival to Peacock, fans can now stream the entire Shrek franchise, but they will need two streaming subscriptions to do it. As of September 1st, Shrek (2001), Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007), and Puss in Boots (2011) are all streaming on Peacock. That means NBCUniversal’s streamer is only missing a single movie, Shrek Forever After (2010). That film started streaming on Netflix on September 1st alongside the three original Shrek movies and Puss in Boots.
Fans have their choice between Netflix or Peacock to stream the first three movies and Puss in Boots but will have to move to Netflix for the fourth Shrek film and Peacock for the franchise’s most recent installment. All six movies are also available to rent or buy online.
