Tubi Announces New R.L. Stine Movie Coming This Halloween (But It’s Not a New Goosebumps)

The Goosebumps series on Disney+ and Hulu may have been cancelled after its second season, but the spooky works of R.L. Stine aren’t going anywhere. The iconic author’s books and stories have been read and adapted countless times over the years, and this Halloween will bring another one of his popular tales to the screen. Tubi just announced that R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead will be released as an original to the service next month.

Not to be confused with the 1988 Pumpkinhead movie, R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead is based on his short story The Haunting Hour. In true Stine fashion, Pumpkinhead is going to be a young-adult adaptation featuring a younger cast of characters who are up against a seemingly unstoppable force. The movie is premiering on Tubi on October 17th, making it free for everyone to watch as soon as it arrives.

R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead tells the story of a young man named Sam, who finds himself struggling after moving to a new town. Things get worse when his brother disappears and Sam has to stop a terrifying harvest curse. You can check out the official synopsis below.

“A teenager, Sam thought moving to Redhaven was the worst partโ€”until his brother Finn vanishes and no one, not even their mom, remembers he existed. With Halloween ticking down, Sam, his friend Becka, and Rusty, the townโ€™s most eccentric outcast, must stop a harvest curse before Finn is lost forever.”

The film stars Adeline Lo, Kevin McNulty, Bob Frazer, Matty Finochio, and Seth Isaac Johnson. It’s written and directed by Jem Garrard, who is best known for helming Tubi’s 2024 film Slay, as well as episodes of Charmed, Virgin River, and Wynonna Earp. Executive producers include Garrard, James Mattagne, Joan Waricha, Harvey Kahn, Yvonne Bernard, Dan Bernard, Allen Lewis, and Rama Diallo.

โ€œR.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead is a playful blend of good fun, big scares with an element of adventure that taps into everything audiences love about Halloween and young-adult horror,โ€ said Adam Lewinson, Chief Content Officer at Tubi. โ€œWeโ€™re thrilled to collaborate with the legendary โ€œmaster of fear,โ€ R.L. Stine as part of our growing slate of YA storytelling that bridges generations and delivers fresh, genre-driven entertainment.โ€

“There’s something rotten inside these pumpkins–and it isn’t pumpkin meat,” added Stine in a statement. “I’m so happy to see one of my most terrifying Halloween stories brought to chilling life in this new movie!”
