Does This Transformers 5 Poster Reveal Bumblebee’s Classic Look?

Michael Bay has certainly “taken liberties” when adapting the ’80s Transformers cartoons for the big screen. While Optimus Prime has more or less remained intact (same voice actor (Peter Cullen), same design, same 18-wheeler vehicle mode) many other iconic characters (Megatron) have been tweaked or transformed for the movie universe.

Case in point: franchise icon, Bumblebee. Optimus’ most loyal soldier has been changed a great deal from his cartoon counterpart; his nasally voice replaced by a squawking radio box, and his iconic yellow Volkswagen Beetle vehicle mode swapped out for a flashy Chevy Camaro.

There’s been a lot of speculation about what will become of Bumblebee in the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight, but thanks to a new poster, we now have a secondary question to ask:

Will We See Bumblebee’s Classic Look in Transformers: The Last Knight?

Bumblebee v Nazis

Transformers 5 Bumblebee Poster

As you can see in the poster below, and again in some recently released promo images, at least part ofย Transformers: The Last Knight will deal with the Transformers’ role in Earth’s wars throughout history.ย

The image is captivating, if not a little silly – meaning, classic Michael Bayย Transformers. The message being conveyed is that the courage of the WWIIย generation wasn’t enough to overcome the Nazi threat… without Bumblebee (like we said: little silly) Whether or not The Nazis had their own Transformers aiding them remains to be seen – however, Nazis using Transformers tech is ย something Michael Bay wouldย definitelyย do…ย

The real takaway from the poster is Bumblebee’s body design: it’s obviously not a Chevy Camaroย (not released until 1966), but it’s hard to make out what his WWIIย vehicle form will be. One obvious guess would be that he could be sporting the look of the classic Volkswagen Beetle from the ’80s cartoon series!ย

VW Beetles began production in 1938, and were definitely in use during WWIIย – as were several other Volkswagen models, which were used as military vehicles. The latter seems like the most likely pick for Bumblebee’s WWIIย body, as there are clear hints of military markings on his body, and the black hubcap-less tires hint at military function, more than Volkswagen fashion.ย

Either way, seeing classic Bumblebee inย Transformers 5 would be a great Easter egg for longtimeย fans.ย

Slide 2

Transformers: The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Haddock).

The cast of Transformers: The Last Knight features Mark Wahlberg (Planet of the Apes) as Cade Yeager, Isabela Monerย (100 Things To Do Before High School) as Izabella, Josh Duhamel (Life as We Know It) as Lieutenant Colonel William Lennox, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Seymour Simmons, andย Tyrese Gibson (Furious 7) as Robert Epps, as well as Jerrod Carmichael (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising), Anthony Hopkins (Thor: The Dark World). The voice cast includes Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime and John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane) as Hound.

Michael Bay will return to direct. Transformers: The Last Knight opens in theaters on June 21, 2017.
