If you are a fan of the Underworld films, then you know the supernatural-horror franchise has had a slew of aesthetics over the years. Kate Beckinsale‘s popular vampire dramas have gone sample everything from steampunk fashion to contemporary gothic stylings. However, when Underworld: Blood Wars first entered production, the folks behind the film knew they needed to do something different. And, in this behind-the-scenes clip, fans can see how production designers gave the film a distinctly medieval vibe.

“We pretty quickly figured out that we were on the same page – that we wanted to make a statement by going back to the roots of Underworld and back into its gothic world,” director Anna Foerster explained.
To do this, Underworld: Blood Wars filmed around the world in locations like Prague and used as many practical sets as possible. In fact, the film’s vampire mansion was an actual castle built just outside of the European city. It’s marbling finishes and high vaulted ceilings lent the film a lavish overtone which would have been difficult to recreate on set.

Underworld: Blood Wars follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale), as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.
The cast also features Tobias Menzies(Outlander), Lara Pulver (Sherlock), James Faulkner (Game of Thrones), Peter Andersson(The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), newcomer Clementine Nicholson, Bradley James (A&E’s Damien) and Daisy Head (Fallen), and is directed by Anna Foerster.
The screenplay was penned by Cory Goodman (The Last Witch Hunter, Priest) and based on characters originally created by Kevin Grevioux, Len Wiseman and Danny McBride. The was produced by Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg (The Lincoln Lawyer, Million Dollar Baby), Gary Lucchesi(Million Dollar Baby, Underworld), Richard S. Wright (The Lincoln Lawyer, Underworld), David Kern (Underworld: Awakening), and Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall).
