One major question fans have about the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as production continues in the U.K., is whether or not the Venom symbiote will be formally introduced in the MCU. Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and the symbiote appeared in a post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, we’ve yet to see or hear anything solid about if Brand New Day director Daniel Destin Cretton plans to pick up where No Way Home helmer Jon Watts left off when it comes to the symbiote, and if it will factor at all into the upcoming film. But we all know it would be a good idea.

While we may be in the dark, Mohd Harris of the Instagram account @welove__marvel gave us a glimpse of what Peter Parker (Tom Holland) could look like in a black, Venom-infected suit in recent post. In the art, a maskless Peter Parker kneels in a city street, screaming and attempting to pull the ropey black viscous substance of the symbiote off of his person. Interestingly, the source of the symbiote seems to be a long, green, pointed tail, which has its black ropes curled around it. The tail clearly belongs to iconic Spider-Man villain Scorpion, who is consistently rumored to be one of the baddies Peter will be facing off against in Brand New Day.
Scorpion’s Return Would Pay Off an Unforgivably Dropped MCU Storyline
Mac Gargan, is one of the oldest villains in Spidey’s rogues gallery, making his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #19 in December 1964. More importantly for the MCU, he also debuted in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and was set up as a returning villain for the sequel. For some reason, however, Michael Mando’s vengeance-seeking bad guy went missing. Rumors of Mando’s return have been a long time coming, and hopefully finally means we get to see him in full flow.
And he might be coming back with a new look. Gargan notably becomes a host of the Venom symbiote in Marvel Knights: Spider-Man #10 in January 2005, making this fan concept art a plausible way for Peter to be infected with the Venom symbiote should Gargan become or already be its host in Brand New Day. As the Venomized Scorpion, Mando could admirably fill the hole of Tom Hardy’s now retired Venom.
While some fans may be bummed if Brock doesn’t appear in Brand New Day, Gargan, as another known host for Venom, presents a fresh opportunity to see how the symbiote interacts with different characters, Peter included. We just hope that if Peter does, in fact, come in contact with the symbiote, it’s better received than Tobey Maguire’s version of the character in the panned Spider-Man 3.
