Subscribers will be able to watch the pilots on March 17, so maybe if you need to take a break from binge-watching the new Iron Fist series on Netflix you should head over to Amazon for a change of pace.
One of the five series is called The Legend of Master Legend from some of the people behind the award-winning Transparent. The comedy is inspired by a Rolling Stone article from Joshuah Bearman about real-life superheroes. John Hawkes stars as Master Legend, defender of the Las Vegas strip.
Another pilot called Oasis stars the former King in the North Richard Madden as a chaplain in space, as we previously wrote about. Madden used to portray Robb Stark on Game of Thrones, and then the Red Wedding happened and everyone knows how well that went for the Stark family.
Other pilots include Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The series is set in New York City in the '50s and chronicles a former housewife becoming a standup comedian. It stars House of Cards' Emmy-nominated actor Rachel Brosnahan and Tony Shahloub, who won an Emmy for his work on Monk.
Budding Prospects is based on a novel with the same title by T.C. Boyle, about a guy who tries to sell weed in the '80s. That will star Joel David Moore, Brett Gelman, and MAD TV's Will Sasso.
And finally Amazon gets in on the Rick and Morty/Bojack Horseman game with an animated comedy for adults in a series called The New V.I.P.'s, about a group of employees who accidentally kill their boss and take over a huge corporation.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Oasis are both one-hour shows, while the other three will be half an hour long.
