Two weeks ago, the shortlist for the Academy Awards' visual effects recognition was released, with 20 movies on it including blockbusters like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Now, the final shortlist (not actually the list of nominations, but the ten films eligible for nomination) has been released, and many of the fanboy favorites remain in contention.

The list includes Ant-Man, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ex Machina, Jurassic World, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Tomorrowland and The Walk.

Gone are most of the critically-maligned but high-grossing films like Terminator: Genisys, Chappie and Furious 7, although the inclusion of Tomorrowland shows that you don't have to be a darling with the critics to be considered for a visual effects award.

Other titles left off the final list include The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 and Bridge of Spies.
