Arrow star Stephen Amell took to Facebook earlier today to explain to fans that his absence from the social media site was in part because it's frustrating to have a celebrity presence online following a tragedy like the apparent suicide of comedian and actor Robin Williams.

"Hey FB - my apologies for the lack of activity," Amell wrote (you can see the post embedded below). "Social media isn't my favorite place in the immediate aftermath of a well publicized tragedy. In the case of the gentleman we lost Monday, I just want to flee from the internet. Someone always ruins things and it always makes me angry. Be good to one another."

Amell is typically known for his outgoing and fan-friendly approach to social media, which has actually been picked up by a number of entertainment, business and advertising websites and periodicals as a great example of fan interaction and brand management.

Williams was found dead Monday at his home in California, apparently a victim of suicide. His family and management both issued statements that stopped short of confirming as much, but asked for understanding and privacy

Williams's death has resulted in a broad call for attention to be paid to depression and addiction issues, but some, including a Fox News commentator, have caused controversy by calling out Williams as selfish or other, similar accusations. His daughter Zelda was forced off of Twitter by trolls who were, among other things, sending her Photoshopped images of her father, depicting his "body."

Arrow returns on October 8 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
