After years of waiting, Attack On Titan fans finally got a long-awaited look at the anime’s second season. Kodansha Comics and Funimation teamed up to debut the ultimate holiday gift online as the first teaser trailer for Attack On Titan went live, and the thrilling footage closely mirrored pages from the ‘Clash of the Titans’ manga arc. So, while readers may be in-the-know, there are plenty of people scratching their heads over the newly released trailer.
And, seriously, can someone explain why Eren Yeager’s hand is missing at the end of the explosive teaser?
Well, yes - but spoilers will be inevitable.
If you haven’t read the manga, then you should know that the second season of Attack On Titan will focus heavily on the ’Clash of the Titans’ arc. The storyline debuted in 2012 and follows the 104th Training Corps after the Wall Rose is infiltrated by Titans. The group continues to push back against the horde and plug the breach, but the Survey Corps is stopped by two surprising figures. In a shocking reveal, Reiner and Bertolt reveal they are the Armored and Colossus Titan respectively. Stunned, Eren fights Reiner in a rage as they both shift into the Titan forms.
However, the Armored Titan is on a mission, and he far outclasses Eren. In chapter 43, readers watched as the Armored Titan wails on Eren and even takes off his hand to cripple his attack. Lying on the ground, Eren has the unsettling realization that Reiner has been holding back on him, and the hero grows angrier as he thinks about how the two boys have caused so much pain and destruction. But, when Eren tries to fight back, the Armored Titan pushes him back down. And, when the battle is all said and done, Eren loses and winds up becoming a prisoner-of-war under the watch of Reiner and Bertolt.
Here’s what Funimation had to say about the first Season 2 trailer: “Attack On Titan is set to return in April 2017. See the first glimpse of the new season here in this official promotional video from Kodansha! New titans, new locations, and new human warriors as well as many familiar faces come into play this time around.”
