After midnight showings produced a $700,000 thud, weekend estimates for 'Cowboys & Aliens' were lowered yesterday. However, after a $13 million dollar Friday haul, estimates have the film trending up to $40-45 million for the weekend box office. As reported by Deadline, the increased take probably won't be enough for the film to take the number one slot. That honor should go to--wait for it--the freaking 'Smurfs' movie. Captain America's 2nd weekend numbers are below the expected 50% drop. At an estimated $25 million, that would put the film down 68% for the three day haul.
