A rumor is circulating that Bethesda Softworks will officially reveal Fallout 4 at the end of their press conference at this year's E3 event.

The rumor comes from German website PC Games, which cites a trusted anonymous source. This is the first time that Bethesda Softworks has ever held a press conference at E3, so we have to believe they're making a big announcement. Fallout 4 would certainly qualify as that.

The rumor suggests that a closed door demo of the game, lasting 20-30 minutes, would be shown to press at the end of the conference event. It's only a rumor though, and not the first surrounding the next Fallout game. One site suggested to be a teaser site for Fallout 4 proved to be a hoax, and another suggesting the game would be set in Boston remains unconfirmed.

It does seem like the time is right. Since revitalizing the Fallout franchise with Fallout 3 in 2008, and then giving Obsidian Entertainment, whose team members include many of Fallout's original creators, a chance to return to the Wasteland in 2010's Fallout: New Vegas, the franchise has lain dormant. Clearly fans are ready for a new installment.

E3 takes place June 16-18.
