Sony is hopeful that its recent acquisition will lead to a major franchise.
The movie studio has purchased the film rights to Fire And Ice. Robert Rodriguez has been tapped to direct a live-action version of the 1983 animated film, Deadline reports.
In the original movie, a small village is destroyed by a surging glacier domain for the evil Ice Lord, Nekron. Sole survivor is a young warrior who vows vengeance, and when Nekron’s subhuman, apelike creatures kidnap a king’s daughter, the warrior becomes determined to track down and free her.
This is a major purchase for Sony in light of the numerous setbacks since the email hack a few weeks ago. The company has since been doing damage control and has been weighing their options on a number of their projects.
Sony execs are hopeful that Fire And Ice will spawn a fantasy adventure franchise for the company.
