IDW Publishing has announced a new DVD set that will retell the classic High Society storyline from Dave Sim’s Cerebus series in a multimedia format. The Cerebus: High Society Digital Audio/Visual Experience will feature Dave Sim reading each issue of the story in character, with added music and sound effects, as well as motion effects applied to the story’s art. Each issue also includes full Editorial Comments from Sim, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look into his seminal work.”With the restoration of the High Society graphic novel now dragging on into its 3rd year—and no end in sight—it’s Justin Eisinger and IDW to the rescue with Cerebus: High Society Digital Audio/Visual Experience DVD set! Thanks guys!” said Dave Sim.”Cerebus means so many things to so many readers, it really is a monumental work of our times,” said Justin Eisinger, IDW’s Senior Editor Books. “Having the opportunity to work with Dave and his team to bring this High Society set to life—and in this form—is a special experience that we’ll never forget. The creator PERFORMING the story?! It’s a hell of a thing.”Sim’s Cerebus ran for 300 issues, from 1977 to 2004. While it started off as a Conan-like sword-and-sorcery adventure, High Society, which ran from issues #26-50, transformed it into a commentary on politics, society, and culture. It remained that until its conclusion, which makes High Society a perfect entry point for new readers. This special recreation of High Society is the result of an earlier Kickstarter campaign. The final product will be released this August.
