Jay and Silent Bob Mini-Mates Announced as Comic-Con Exclusives

A new line of Mini-Mates minifigures will kick off at San Diego Comic Con International this year based on the films of Kevin Smith and set in the "View Askewniverse" that many of his movies--as well as his comics and the occasional TV appearance--are set. The line will launch with a black-and-white 2-pack of Jay & Silent Bob figures, looking as they did in Smith's first film, Clerks. (Have they ever made a Mini-Mate in a trench coat before? I'm sure they have, but I haven't seen one.) The set will be available at the Diamond Select Toys booth, #2607, at a price of $10. San Diego Comic-Con runs from Thursday, July 18 to Sunday July 21, with a Preview night on Wednesday. Future sets will be produced in both black and white and in color, presumably depending on the film from which the characters are taken. According to Graphic Policy, plans are currently to produce Mini-Mates from all of Smith's Askewniverse films: Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks 2. Presumably, Smith does not own the rights to make Mini-Mates from Scream or DeGrassi High. It's probably a safe assumption that when Clerks 3 is filmed, there will be merchandising tie-ins to that film, as well.
