Ever since the first time "created by Rob Thomas" appeared onscreen at the start of Veronica Mars, there's been a segment of the audience that wondered to themselves, "...Wait, the Matchbox 20 guy?"

Veronica Mars, Party Down and iZombie showrunner Rob Thomas knows this, and it's been a frequent source of humor over the years. The fact that TV's Rob Thomas has the @robthomas Twitter handle has also occasionally lent itself to some confusion and laughs.

Well, the two are finally coming together. Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas is set to appear in the season finale this year, although we'll get teased that he's coming before that. Here's how TVInsider reports it:

"When Super Max needs a jingle, Max Rager chairman Vaughn Du Clark (Steven Weber) hires Thomas (playing himself) to perform the song. Viewers will first hear the ditty in Episode 17—though Thomas won't appear in the flesh until the season finale on Monday, April 12, when he performs a song from his solo career at the Super Max launch party."

Seems like a win/win, actually. Thomas (the showrunner) gets to indulge in one of the longest-running jokes of his career, while Thomas (the singer) gets to promote one of his new songs!

iZombie airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, following The Flash.
