Endemol Shine Studios has acquired the rights to adapt the EA Dice developed video game Mirror's Edge into a television series.

Mirror's Edge was published by Electronic Arts in 2008. The video game is set in a dystopian future where the only means of communicating without government surveillance is through a network of "runners," an underground network of messengers with parkour skills who avoid the authorities by running and jumping across the city's skycrapers.

The game's unique first-person running mechanic put players in the role of one such runner named Faith Connors. When Faith's sister is framed for murder, Faith tries to clear her name, but is drawn into a conspiracy involving the powerful organization called the Conglomerate that rule the city of Glass.

"We clearly see Mirror's Edge as a franchise for the global TV audience," Sharon Hall, President of Endemol Shine Studios, tells Deadline. "It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing."

Mirror's Edge was well-received by critics and fans when it was first released. Fans have long been awaiting a sequel, and in 2013 EA finally confirmed that a follow up, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, was in development. Mirror's Edge Catalyst will be a kind of cross between a reboot and a prequel, launching the franchise anew by exploring Faith's origin as she attempts to overthrow the Conglomerate. Mirror's Edge Catalyst is scheduled for release on Jun 7, 2016.
