Ash Sceptile

Pokken Tournament just got a little grassier. A new photo leaked online hints that Sceptile will be the newest playable character in the Pokemon fighting game, which will be released on the Wii U next year. The photo shows Shoko Nakagawa, the presenter of the Japanese Pokemon news show Pokenchi, playing the Pokken Tournament arcade game with a sign showcasing Sceptile as well as two new playable support characters, Electrode and Farfetch'd, nearby. Here's a (unfortunately small) photo of the sign below:

Sceptile is the final evolution of Treeko, a Hoenn region starter Pokemon (as seen in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire and the remakes Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire). Sceptile was given a Mega Evolution in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, which turns the popular Grass Pokemon into a Grass/Dragon hybrid. Sceptile's attacks mainly center around its powerful pine tree-like tail and two blade-like extensions on its arms, which are used in Sceptile's signature attack: Leaf Blade. Sceptile has been a featured Pokemon in the Pokemon anime several times. Ash owns a Sceptile, which is considered to be one of his most powerful Pokemon and one of his current rivals, Sawyer, has a Grovyle (Sceptile's pre-evolved form) which acts as a rival for Ash's Frogadier.

Sceptile is the first Grass type to appear in Pokken Tournament and the second Hoenn starter to appear in the game (Blaziken, the final evolution of Torchic, was one of the first characters announced). Nintendo has promised an announcement for the game later this week, so expect an official announcement and video soon.
