Clearly, in a dystopian world that monitors its citizens' every thought, some big problems will inevitably arise. Psycho-Pass tells the story of what happens when people are pre-sentenced for crimes they've not yet committed, and recently, news broke that the popular anime was getting its own video game spin-off. Now, a brand-new trailer has been released for the Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness.

The trailer features shots showcasing the game's various settings, and it gives some background on what its storyline will revolve around. Clearly inspired by the show, Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness will follow players as they choose to play one of two detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Department's Division 1. The detectives must decide what course of actions the department will take for various cases, ultimately pitting Enforcers, Inspectors, and Civilians against each other.

For those who are unfamiliar with Psycho-Pass, let me first recommend you give the show a shot. The anime takes place in a future dystopian world where a program called The Sibyl System constantly monitors the population's mental well-being, determining which individuals are most likely to become unbalance. The system's assessment is called a 'Psycho Pass,' and any individual who should fail the test is immediately deemed a public threat. As such, it then becomes up to the Public Safety Bureau to apprehend these potential criminals may they be dead or alive.

Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness will borrow the show's differentiation between Enforcers and Inspectors. To be specific, Enforcers will be latent criminals who've likely been recruited by police to work for them, and Inspectors are the ones sent to watch over Enforcers as their partners. Players will be asked to become one of these detectives and solve crimes whether they're Enforcers or not. The game explains, "regardless of the hierarchy that separates Inspector from Enforcer, players must be mindful that every decision has its own repercussions. With an intricate decision-making system, PSYCHO-PASS: Mandatory Happiness offers a twisted plot and compelling cases, providing a number of different endings."

Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness will be hitting the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita on September 16th 2016 before it hits Steam. For U.S. Playstation Network users, the game will also come with the first two episodes of Psycho-Pass for free. So, for now, feel free to check out some screen shots below from the game which feature three all-new characters!
