Pokemon GO Might Appear In The Olympic's Closing Ceremony

Could Pokemon GO be going for gold? Well, if one insider is correct, then it seems as if Pokemon might be taking the stage during the Olympic's Closing Ceremony.

The Telegraph is reporting that Pokemon GO could make an appearance during tonight's closing ceremonies for the Rio Summer Games. The final event will see Rio handover the Olympic Games to Japan as the country will host the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. Known for their impressive tech, Japan has said they'll be showcasing "cutting edge science and technology" at the closing ceremony. So, really, what better way could Japan show-off than by using Pokemon?

Of course, officials have yet to comment on Pokemon's alleged appearance, but one insider did tell The Telegraph a reference to Pokemon was "inevitable." Fans are speculating that the allusion will come in the form of Pokemon GO - no doubt due to the game's popularity - but Pokemon could appear in other ways. Perhaps a swarm of people dressed as Pikachu will flood Rio's Maracanã Stadium to celebrate the Nintendo-owned franchise.

Tonight's closing ceremonies will also let Japan to thank all of the countries which sent them relief aid following several recent earthquakes. Toshiro Muto, the 2020 Olympic's CEO, indicated the closing ceremonies would be the perfect venue to show the world how grateful Japan is for their support. Brazil, on the other hand, will use the event to bid the Games goodbye in traditional carnival fashion.

So far, more than 41,000 tickets have been sold for tonight's event, and viewers can catch them live on air at 7 P.M ET. Many athletes from all over the world will attend the closing ceremonies, and as usual, the official Olympic flag will be handed over to Japan to celebrate the next Games. Yuriko Koike, Tokyo's newly elected governor, will receive the flag.

Unsurprisingly, Pokemon GO has continued its quest for global domination even amongst the Games' fanfare. The Olympic Village was inundated by athletes who doubled as Pokemon masters. The game was released in Brazil just days before the Olympic Games kicked off, and PokeFever caught on fast. Instead of training their bodies, some athletes opted to train their starters for total gym domination.

However, one Japanese gymnast Kōhei Uchimura might have wished he had stayed clear of the game. The athlete was stunned to see he racked up a $5,000 phone bill after playing Pokemon GO abroad. The athlete went on to contact his wireless provider, no doubt desperate to explain the situation since he believed he had a flat data rate for overseas usage. Thankfully, the phone company spared Uchimura and canceled his outrageous bill.
