Spider-Man will be in some very good company when the debut of the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark opens in 2010! Marvel has announced that actress Evan Rachel Wood (The Wrestler, Across the Universe) will star as Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's long-time love interest. Considered one of Hollywood's up and coming young stars, the North Carolina native will make her New York stage debut in the Spider-Man musical! Adding to the cast is veteran actor Alan Cumming, cast as Norman Osborn, also known as Spider-Man's arch enemy the Green Goblin. Cumming is no stranger to the Broadway stage, having won a Tony for his work in the musical Cabaret. He has also appeared in productions such as The Threepenny Opera and Design for Living. Many of the comic book persuasion will remember him for his work in the X-Men film X2: X-Men United, where he played the teleporting mutant Nightcrawler. David Garfinkle and Martin McCallum, part of the producing team for the musical, had this to say about these casting additions, "We are thrilled that Evan and Alan are onboard and we look forward to announcing further casting, including the webslinger himself, very soon." If the caliber of supporting cast is any indicator, expect big things from the lucky actor who lands the coveted title role!
