The Dark Knight Rises

surpassed Ice Age 4: Continental Drift on Sunday to become the year's second-highest grossing film, behind only Marvel's The Avengers. To date, The Dark Knight Rises has a global gross of $732 million. Ice Age 4 has grossed nearly $716 million to date. The Avengers, of course, comes in first this year with $1.46 billion globally so far--that's the third-best tally of all time. Obviously, both of the films are still in theaters, but The Dark Knight Rises came out after Ice Age 4 did, and has vastly outgrossed it every weekend, so it's safe to assume that it will remain in that spot. Domestically, The Dark Knight Rises still lags behind The Hunger Games, making it the third-highest grosser of the year. It's widely expected to make the $54 million needed to surpass The Hunger Games by the end of the weekend. Warner Brothers have said that they expect The Dark Knight Rises to gross $1 billion worldwide and surpass The Dark Knight as the highest-grossing Batman film of all time. Currently, The Dark Knight is the second-highest-grossing superhero movie ever made, behind The Avengers. The Dark Knight Rises is not performing as well as The Dark Knight did domestically, although worldwide it's still tracking higher than its predecessor.
