The Flash Pilot Director David Nutter Says Grant Gustin Was "Magical"
pilot director David Nutter, who also directed the pilots for Smallville, Arrow and The Mentalist, among others, told Comic Book Resources thatThe Flash lead Grant Gustin's performance was "magical." Asked how impressed he was with Gustin's performance in The Flash, Nutter said, "As impressed as I've been with any lead of any pilot I've ever done. He was truly magical. He was quite fantastic and had amazing chops and composure. He had such wonderful depth and power and richness. I think the audience will love him." Nutter, who also directed the infamous "Red Wedding" episode of Game of Thrones, told CBR that the pilot was heavily influenced by the Geoff Johns run from the comics -- not surprising since Johns co-wrote the Flash-themed Arrow episode "The Man Under the Hood" and serves as an Executive Producer on The Flash. And, unsurprisingly, he was asked about the Red Wedding, too -- something he'll probably be answering questions about for years to come. "All I know is the writers of the series, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, had talked to me during the season when they liked what I was doing," Nutter said. "They said, 'We want you to direct season three's Red Wedding.' They kept saying how important it was and what a game-changer this episode was going to be. I started to get nervous immediately, and got very worried. As I started to get closer to it, and found out what I was doing, it was an awesome task to do these characters justice and do the story justice!" The Flash debuts on The CW in the fall. Nutter has at least two more episodes coming up of Game of Thrones this year.0comments
