The Muppets Recap With Spoilers: S1E2 Hostile Makeover

, interrupted by Gonzo. Oh, Gonzo, is there anything you can’t ruin?

The episode starts in the production room with a birthday card signing. Fozzie gets an evite from Jay Leno, a couple jokes pass by, and suddenly a Miss Piggy Code Red is declared.

After a tornado of a temper tantrum, they realize they need to find Piggy a date for the People’s Choice Awards. They look to book one of Piggy’s “free pass list” celebrities for the date, using Kermit’s knowledge. Jeff Goldblum, Matt Damon, and Keanu Reeves are all on the list – and all pass.

When Josh Groban’s name comes up, Pepe the Prawn says “he gives me the feels – what, he’s an attractive man and gender is fluid!” Well, we have our next Million Moms article for tomorrow, at least!

Groban gets booked onto the show, and does a duet performance with Piggy, with romantic undertones arranged by Kermit. As Piggy sings to Groban from atop his piano, sparks fly, and they end the performance with a passionate kiss. The performance is so moving, even Statler says “woo! What, I’m allowed to feel things!”

“Der Piggy been gropin die Groban!” Sums up the morning after thanks to the Swedish Chef. Piggy’s mood has notably changed, with some amazing consequences: a code green, Kermit “waking up to my alarm instead of my own screams!” Muppet arm flail. Yes.

The excitement ends for Kermie when Piggy tells him that “Josh has some ideas for the show…” including more sophisticated guests like authors, and the band going acoustic. Kermit notes they’re “the ELECTRIC mayhem,” but Piggy pushes. They play acoustic, and the entire audience falls asleep.

Author Reza Aslan is Piggy’s guest on the show, and that leads her into a tirade against libraries.

Cut to Fozzie, our resident “let’s tell a story away from the studio” character, who is off at Jay Leno’s party. Jay makes his cameo, including a hug and talk about a Japanese style bathroom. Fozzie steals a candy dish from Leno, and starts freaking out at the writer’s room about it. Kermit addresses the production staff and says he’s going to get rid of Groban.

“No! It’s true, the quality of the show is prison sushi, but Piggy is so pleasant the rest of the day!”

Kermit’s not convinced, and wants the real Piggy back. No one stops him, a fact Rizzo points out.

When he goes to Piggy’s dressing room, Groban stops him. Chef gets his second awesome zinger of the episode, as Piggy is getting a hot rocks massage, and he says, “Somebody cookin de bacon!”

Fozzie goes back to Jay’s house, feeling guilty about taking the candy dish. He and Jay talk, and Jay wants him to open for him in Vegas. It turns out Jay stole the candy dish from George Carlin, and he’s angry when he finds out Fozzie took it, and throws him out.

Laurence Fishburne cameo!

Kermit drives around the lot in his golf cart, and gets an idea about how to get the old Piggy back.

Another Laurence Fishburne cameo!

The Electric Mayhem marijuana joke from the early trailers finally made its appearance. “They’re always happy… legally now!”

Kermit puts his plan into motion, adding “Josh Groban Presents” above “Up Late with Miss Piggy” on the marquee. “Even though you’re the only woman in late night, you’re strong enough to admit you can’t do it with a man!” he quips. She ended things nearly instantly.

The episode ended with a missed connection between Lea Thompson and Kermit (one of the women on his list), interrupted by Gonzo. Oh, Gonzo, is there anything you can’t ruin?
