The miniseries The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite was a huge hit for Dark Horse Comics. Gerard Way, who wrote the series, received an Eisner for Best Limited Series, and a Harvey for Best New Series for his work. The artist on the series was multiple-Eisner winner Gabriel B . The Umbrella Academy is set in a world that defies the space-time continuum. It is a world that includes a dysfunctional family of super-powered siblings that fight animated monuments, talking chimpanzees, a secret society of robot assassins, and each other. The follow-up series called The Umbrella Academy: Dallas has just started hitting comic book stores. In order to commemorate the new series, Dark Horse Deluxe has announced the release of a new action figure set. The action figure set depicts the six members of The Umbrella Academy introduced in Apocalypse Suite. The figures are sized to scale, ranging from The Boy at 2 inches to Spaceboy at 5 inches. Creators Way and B worked with the Dark Horse Product Development team to make sure the figures portrayed the characters exactly as they appear in the comic. The six figures will be encased in cylindrical 360-degree packaging that will show the team under an umbrella-shaped dome. The six figure set is scheduled to hit stores in May 2009 with a suggested retail of $39.99. In addition to the six figure set, Dark Horse also announced a book-and-figure set. The book-and-figure set consists of a hardcover edition of the first collected graphic novel and a 4-inch figure of Vanya, also known as The White Violin. The hardcover will feature a previously unused cover by Gabriel B . The book-and-figure set is scheduled for release in April 2009 with a suggested retail of $24.99. "In my six years at Dark Horse, I have never experienced this much cooperation and inspired creativity on a project," said Rebecca D'Madeiros, who is Senior Product Development Manager for Dark Horse Comics. "Gerard and Gabriel, the team here at Dark Horse, and the manufacturers have contributed a wealth of ideas for the figures and the unique packaging. It's been great fun along the way. We are all proud of the outcome: a 6-piece figure set worth displaying on a revolving shelf with spotlights and soundtrack music!"
